Captains Day 2018 (Berny’s 80th Birthday)

On 3rd August one of our favorite Hua Hin golf courses “Springfield A&B” hosted the 2018 HHGS Captain’s Cup providing a perfect venue for the awards and initial celebrations of Berny’s 80th Birthday which this year, coincided exactly with the staging the annual HHGS Major.

Whilst the weather was not our normal sunny clear skies that we have all come to expect in our little piece of paradise in Hua Hin,  it did cooperate with only a few minor light showers that did nothing to dampen the enjoyment of the 70 members on the day.

Playing long because of the damp conditions the course proved to be a tough challenge and contributed to a really tight battle for honour of being name the Captain’s Cup winner for 2018. It came down to a count back on 36 Stableford points between Sam Sheriff & Khun Nuch Chanaporn who were tied on the last 9, last 6 and last 3 before before eventually being decided on the score on the last hole itself in Sam Sheriff’s favour – right down to the wire so well done to both of them and congratulations to Sam.

The post-event dinner and awards party around the pool at Bosco’s began with the Committee presenting Jill Moore, representing Bright Dawn Foundation, with a cheque for 60,920 Baht that HHGS have accumulated from member’s contributions over the past year thus continuing HHGS’s well established support of this most worth while of Charities.

Arnold Rjuis took to the stage to lead a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday” for Berny’s 80th birthday. Berny then wielded a mean knife to cut the Birthday Cake and was presented with his gift from all of the HHGS membership of Free Golf, Caddy and Carts for the remainder of 2018. Whilst the party started at Springfield it didn’t end there, with major celebrations continuing into the night back at Berny Bar. Those of you who were there can testify to the success of that gathering – OUCH my head still hurts!!

Safe to say a great day was had by all and the next one – the 2018 Masters – isn’t that far away so make sure you are part of that one.
